So, a 2GB upgrade is better than a 1GB upgrade, which is better than a 512MB upgrade. Some systems also handle different memory speeds, such as DDR-333 and DDR-400, or DDR2-533 and DDR2-667. In most cases the modules with the higher number will provide better performance. Q: Will my system recognise the maximum RAM upgrade?: The maximum memory your OS will recognise (whether it be Windows, Mac OS, or Linux/Unix) depends on the version you are running. 32-bit operating systems (which most people use) will usually see (and utilise) somewhere between 3GB to 3.5GB, depending on the peripheral configuration and motherboard limitations.
